What are you looking forward to in 2009?

What am I looking forward to in 2009? Well, I would like to see this as the year we finally settled all the conflicts across the globe and a world where no one is hungry or homeless but the political will does not yet exist for that to happen so I’ll focus on a more personal level.

 

I enjoy the changing of the seasons when Winter finally turns to Spring and all become green again. I look forward to the time even before that when the first flowers the crocuses, for example, stick their brave little heads up and add that very frist touch of colour beyond brown and white.

 

I look forward to the return of the song birds and the morning birdsong coming from the tree in my backyard. The bird chorus can be so loud to be even more effective and far more natural than my clock radio.

 

Last July we moved into a new house and I had begun to make some landscaping changes. I eagerly wait for the daffodils and tulips that I planted alongside the house where before there was only gravel. The hosta that I planted with them with be growing tall as they finally die back to rest for another season.

 

I look forward to weekend morning coffee on the back deck watching the birds come and go from the feeders and the tree.

 

I enjoy cutting the lawn and am eager for the day when I can first take the push mower out of the shed and give the yard its first trim.

 

Last year I began to build, using the no till garden method, a cut flower garden behind the garage and am anxious, well not anxious but rather anticipating returning to that task.

 

I also planted some blue poppy seeds in the bed beside the fence in the driveway and am curious to see if they come up in the Spring. They will be a beautiful addition to this side garden and speaking of that garden, I have other plans for it which Spring will enable me to activate.

 

The two new rose bushes are now covered in snow and it will be exciting to see them when the snow melts. I want to know how they fared over the Winter.

 

I also look forward to Fall and its glorious colours. The mountains around us are brilliant in the autumn and we will most likely take a trip across the bridge into Québec to do some shopping and explore.

 

I even look forward to the snow that will eventually come. I am in no hurry for tomorrow or next month to arrive. Each day is special and carries its own experience. What I look forward to most is waking up each day and being alive.
