How I Spend Rainy Days
71enough rain already
Will the rain ever stop? This is the question I hear with increasingly regularity, these days. The rain has been falling for five days now, often just slightly, enough to make everything damp and unpleasant.
One upside is green, no need to water lawns, trees and shrubs, a downside far too much water and cool conditions for planting food, while I love green, I like to eat and grow beans, peas and so on just as much. The difference is I must eat, I do not have to grow what I eat, just pay for it, and prices will eventually rise as a result of this wet weather.
Okay, aside from ranting about the rain, how do I spend rainy days. Work days do not differ that much whether it is raining out or not. I still take my morning walk. I work from home, so there is no trek to the office and sitting around all day in damp clothes, which is a plus.
After working hours, at least in late Spring and early summer, things are different. I look forward to spending time outside, either in the garden, sitting on the deck or out for a casual stroll. Rainy days are fine for basic garden maintenance, provided there is something to maintain there are less fun for sitting out or casually strolling. Now do not get me wrong I can enjoy a walk in the rain but there are limits and when it rains nearly daily those limits have been reached.
Reading is a passion and part of my work, so there is never a shortage of reading material, books, magazines, articles, websites all are waiting for me to find the time to invest. Rainy days provide that so I first read what I have set aside for informative purposes, an hour or so, remember this is during my personal time and then at least 90 minutes on the fun stuff, the just for me books.
Movies are for off days, as well as books. My wife and I enjoy watching movies together and rainy days we will watch 2 maybe even 3 beginning around four pm. We also have long morning with coffee and snack sow e can sit and talk. Sunny days urge me to get out, rainy ones not so much.
Today we baked an apple pie which brings us to food, the preparing of, not the eating. Not that we do not eat but I am not going to over consume simply because the rain is falling.
Rainy days are great for making tomato sauce and freezing it for another day, or soup for that matter. Despite being able to find plenty to do on rainy days, the rain needs to stop now or I am going to start surfing for plans to build an ark; enough is enough.

Great clip!
Awesome hub, on a rainy day I usually have inspiration for writing songs.
Hi Bob, we have rain here today, you might think that's not unusual for the UK but for Herefordshire and other parts of the UK we were desperate for rain, it's only rained here a couple of days this year! no need to water the garden later, great! it's nice to do rainy day things, love that video.
The rainy days are occasions to relax, write and read. If they do not last too long... Five days maybe are too!
When rain falls so long I think about "100 years of solitude" and the year of interminable rain in Macondo! A genial story!
Starting out from the bottom has its advantages. So far Bob, I have enjoyed some of your writings and have learned quite a bit about how to approach a subject. This my friend is a fun story that has a lot of skill to it. Thank you Bob.
Rain, rain go away ... oops, can't say that -- the grass and flowers will be unhappy. Your hub was a good read. Thank you.
I don't mind the rain provided the sun comes out again.
Great! A vote up from me!
Hi Bob,
Great Hub,
We canned alot of tomatoes this year..great for a rainy day..I don't mind weeding when it is raining..easier job of course Texas is hot so it feels great..We always look forward to rain to fill our three rain barrels..with the drought, they are empty..such a sad thing right now..praying for rain..Thanks again,
Sunnie
Good writing here at it's best-much appreciated. As you say,no point in using the rain as an excuse for over-eating.Hope the ark turned out well if the rain didn't stop :-)
You're welcome. Thanks yourself for the good content.A sense of humour and positive thinking go a long way-will be reading more of your stuff-have sent this link to my wall on facebook and will share it from there with anyone I know who will appreciate it.
