Buying A Kitchen Knife

a good knife

The knife is the most important tool that you will buy for your kitchen. If you do not have a blade that will cut what you want, how you want it, it does not matter how well designed your cookware is, the food will suffer.

The video and link below will help you choose the knife that is best for you.

The knife in the picture has been in my family for over 30 years. My father used to use it to crave our Sunday roast. He gave it to me about 15 years ago when they were moving. I have given it a serious workout since the,

Primarily, I use it to slice and dice vegetables.

It is not the best knife but it is well made and holds a sharp blade. I find that it is a little light but still it gets the job done.

I am redesigning my home kitchen and as a renter there are severe limits as to what I can do, but one thing that I can do is buy the equipment that makes the job easier and helps guarantee that the foods I prepare are well made.

I need a new set of pots and a wok but before I invest in them I have some search to do.

I will not buy anything for the kitchen without spending sometime researching that product. I want to buy the best that I can afford and that is good advice when it comes to a knife or a set of knifes buy the best that you can afford.

The type of steel used in the blade is one of the most important considerations in buying a knife. A blend of high carbon stainless steel that resists rust, stains and corrosion works well.

The tang is also important. The tang is the portion of the metal that continues through the handle and to which the handle is attached. Best quality knives will have a full tang, which means that the portion of the blade that extends into the handle is visible on all sides of the handle.

We bought those specials on TV that you cut a chicken in half and they are great. Although they have brought another lot out and the handles are not very strong.

My knife collection is awful, that shows my cooking skills :). I use one knife for all the cooking. The video is very informative, the next time I buy something I will buy this knife set. Makes sense to do the job right.

I'm just learning about different kitchen knives and this article has helped me tremendously! I love the video, that guy is a crack up. "when you put the knife under the microscope and blow it up!" very entertaining to watch and very informative.
